The Candler County Board of Commissioners have adopted a resolution as required by HB 223, commonly known as "the Trees Act" in order to provide tax relief for property owners who had timber damage as a result of Hurricane Helene.

HB 223 established a temporary tax relief program in response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. To be considered for temporary tax relief the "eligible standing timber" must be located on "eligible timber property".

The time period for timber tax relief: the final quarter of 2024; and each quarter of 2025.

To be eligible for this program the individual Georgia taxpayer must completely and accurately fill out a declaration and certification form and submit it to the Candler County Tax Commissioner. The individual taxpayer must include and attach the information and documentation required by the law.

The certification form and additional information can be found on the Georgia Forestry Commission site:  HB 223 Tax Relief Forms

Forms and supporting documentation should be submitted to the office of Jason Grimes, Candler County Tax Commissioner, 25 W. Daniel St, Metter, GA 30439.

    Vulnerable Population Registry

Candler County Emergency Management Agency is pleased to announce the launch of our Vulnerable Population Registry — a voluntary tool designed to help us identify residents who may need additional assistance before, during, or after an emergency.
This registry is intended for individuals who:
    • Depend on electricity for medical equipment (oxygen, CPAP, etc.)
    • Have mobility, sensory, cognitive, or other functional limitations
    • Live alone with no caregiver or support nearby
    • Do not have reliable transportation in the event of an evacuation
By registering yourself or a loved one, you are helping first responders and emergency planners better prepare to assist those at higher risk during hurricanes, severe weather events, or extended power outages.
    Please note:
This registry does not guarantee emergency services, and all individuals should still have a personal plan in place. The information collected is confidential and will only be accessed by Emergency Management and Candler County first responders during an emergency.
You can access the form and register here:

If you need assistance completing the form or have questions about eligibility, please contact our office directly.
Thank you for helping us keep Candler County prepared and resilient.
    Sincerely,
    Justin Wells
